The author and entertainment entrepreneur known as Ned Buntline was born Edward Zane Carrol Judson in 1823 in Stamford, New York, a small rural farming community in the northern Catskill Mountains. He was the son of a Masonic schoolmaster who was also the author of moral and patriotic pamphlets.
