The Commonwealth of Virginia is an east coast state in the south, and was one of the first thirteen colonies. As a Confederate state during the Civil War, it was subject to reorganizing under Reconstruction, which was resisted by vigilante groups [Page 1894]like the Ku Klux Klan, which was founded in Tennessee, but quickly spread throughout the south and midwest.
