Smuggling is the covert transportation of individuals or goods across points of entry in violation of laws and regulations. U.S. government agencies concerned with smuggling include the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs Service, and Drug Enforcement Administration. Smuggled goods include those that are illegal, like drugs, Cuban goods, and some firearms; those that are subject to legal controls, like prescription drugs, most firearms, many plants and animals, and people; and those that are smuggled to evade a tax, like cigarettes.
