Padilla v. Kentucky is a 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that stipulates under the Sixth Amendment that the attorney and/or defense counsel of a non-citizen client charged with a crime is required to advise the client about the risk of deportation from the United States upon entering a guilty plea.
