To the general public, notions of organized crime often carry stereotypical images associated with Hollywood productions, such as The Godfather, The Sons of Anarchy, The Sopranos, and The Departed. While these portrayals may enlighten the public about the mere existence of organized crime, they inadequately capture and represent the historical and present-day facts concerning criminal organizations. Unfortunately, because of their misconstrued portrayal in movies and television series, individuals have developed misperceptions about organized crime, especially as it relates to the 21st century.
