President Warren Gamaliel Harding (1865–1923) was born in the small village of Blooming Grove, Ohio. Little is known of his early years. In 1882, he graduated from Ohio Central College in Iberia with training to be a rural schoolteacher. In 1885, Harding and several friends purchased the Iberian Spectator, a nearly defunct newspaper. They changed the paper's name to the Marion Star. It rapidly expanded its readership to become an important area newspaper.
