Evidence of children who murder dates back to the 1700s with the case of William York, who in 1748 mutilated and stabbed to death 5-year-old Susan Mahew in Suffolk, England. A few other historic cases are of note. In 1874, Jesse Pomeroy killed a 4-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl in Boston at the age of 14. During a home burglary in June 1945, 16-year-old William Heirens attacked an unsuspecting homeowner in Chicago and slit her throat.
