Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship is defined as a type of entrepreneurship that is intended to have a social impact. Largely controlled by their mission, social entrepreneurs strive to positively affect society in some way. They are separated from nonprofit organizations, however, in that while positively affecting society, they also seek to realize a profit. They are distinct from for-profit organizations in that their mission is not solely driven by profit. In fact, profit may be a secondary goal to the larger goal of social benefit. Indeed, many social entrepreneurs are of the belief that the social mission in and of itself contributes in large part to its profitability.
