Recycling involves the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. It can benefit the community and the environment. The benefits of recycling include a reduction of waste sent to landfills and incinerators; conservation of natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals; prevention of pollution by a reduction in the need to collect raw materials; saving energy; a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change; helping sustain the environment for future generations; and the creation of new well-paying jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries. It is a key component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” waste hierarchy.
