Nuclear Power
Nuclear energy is an important element in the global power system. Civil nuclear power plants have accumulated approximately 16,500 reactor years of experience. In 2016, more than 10% of global electricity was nuclear in origin, produced in 31 countries. Nuclear power has substantial advantages, but there are also significant disadvantages.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy has been discussed and debated since the early days of the nuclear era. Proponents and advocates of nuclear power have championed the case for “the peaceful atom,” while critics and opponents have decried the horrific consequences of nuclear accidents.
