Job Security

Job security is a term that is widely used in both the general media and academic circles but one that carries differing and often poorly defined meanings. In popular use, job security generally is thought of as the likelihood one will keep his or her job. If one believes that he or she has a high level of job security, one believes that there is little likelihood that one will lose his or her job and become unemployed. When we discuss job security from this perspective, we must deal both with the probability that individuals will lose their jobs and individuals’ perception of that probability.
