Index of Economic Freedom

The purpose of the Index of Economic Freedom (IEF) is to measure how free, economically, each nation in the world is. Some of the relevant questions investigators ask include the following. How difficult is it to get a business license? Are women allowed to have bank accounts or own property in their own names? How commonly is it necessary to bribe government officials in order to acquire a construction permit? Can one easily import or export goods into or from one’s country? Do regulations prevent individuals from performing some jobs due to their race, ethnicity, or gender?
