Equal Employment Opportunity

This essay describes and explains the body of legislation and public policy known as Equal Employment Opportunity, or EEO. To best present this complex and multifaceted set of issues, four main topics will be discussed: (1) the definition of EEO, (2) the rationale and history behind EEO, (3) EEO and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and (4) EEO problems.

EEO Defined

EEO is employment practice that doesn’t discriminate against applicants because of race, age, color, religion, sex, or national origin. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, proposed by the then president John F. Kennedy (who was assassinated before he could see it pass), helped establish the EEOC.
