Deutsch, Morton (1920–)

Morton Deutsch is a conflict theorist. He has made sizable contributions to the body of knowledge on interpersonal and intergroup conflict, social injustice and oppression, and trust and threat.

Deutsch was born in 1920. He completed his undergraduate training at City College of New York, took a master's degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1948, where he was one of the last students of Kurt Lewin. From 1948 to 1956, he was on the faculty of New York University. He left there to spend 8 years as a researcher at Bell Labs. In 1958, he became a licensed therapist.
