Yassine, Abdessalam (1928–)

Abdessalam (sometimes translated as Abdul Salam) Yassine, born in 1928, is the leader of Al-Adl Wal-Ihsan (Justice and Charity), one of the leading Islam-oriented political movements in Morocco. Founded in the early 1980s, Al-Adl Wal-Ihsan is popular among students, professionals, and Moroccan diasporas in Europe and North America.

Yassine has tried different political communication strategies to appeal and target a variety of groups inside and outside Morocco. Yassine's books have functioned as a channel for voicing Al-Adl Wal-Ihsan's perspectives and thus gain access to Moroccan elite publics. He initially chose the book medium as a platform for communicating with Moroccan intellectuals. Yassine's first book was published in 1972.
