Self-Motion Perception

Self-motion perception refers to the ability to keep track of changes in one's position or orientation in space. For animals to move effectively in the world, they must be able to predict and detect the consequences of their actions. Some of the information that controls the perception of self-motion in humans is experienced quite vividly as self-velocity, but self-motion perception can also be experienced simply as a change in felt location.
