Creativity and Opportunities

While there is disagreement as to whether opportunities are something that exist external to an entrepreneur or are constructed or developed by an entrepreneur, there is little debate that opportunities are important to entrepreneurship. Definitions of entrepreneurship often involve the recognition or creation, evaluation, and pursuit of opportunities. Also, regardless of the view (recognition or creation) taken, most scholars acknowledge that recognizing, creating, or developing opportunities requires creativity. In fact, creativity is often described as a defining characteristic of entrepreneurs. Many scholars suggest that the recognition or creation of opportunities either requires creativity to be successful or actually is a creative process itself.
