Being a member of an ethnic minority may come with the experience of bias and prejudice in everyday life. When ethnic minority status is combined with sexual minority status, the experience of bias and prejudice can be twofold. Having a lesbian, bisexual, or gay identity may put individuals further outside the mainstream society and at odds with the values of their own ethnic minority group.

For some ethnic minority groups, traditional values preclude the acceptance of homosexuality or bisexuality. This is especially true for families who are firstor second-generation immigrants to the United States.
