Alcohol/Substance Use and Abuse

Alcohol and illicit drug problems are not unique to the majority culture of the United States. They also exist throughout the many cultural groups that compose the nation's ethnic minority population. Within the ethnic minority population, alcohol and illicit drug problems span age, gender, educational background, occupation, and socioeconomic status. What follows is an overview of alcohol and illicit drug use and misuse as it pertains to the ethnic minority population of the United States.
