The cultural script of personalismo states that relationships are valued in and of themselves and not as a means to another end. This means that many Latinos focus on the importance of personal relationships rather than institutional relationships. The focus on the interpersonal relationship means that having a positive connection with the clinical professional is of utmost importance. Hence, if a clinical professional leaves a setting and goes elsewhere, the individual or family may follow the clinical professional to the new setting.
