Decomposed Measurement

The decomposed approach to the measurement of preferences for health states, services, or treatments expresses the overall preference as a decomposed function of the attributes of the health state, service, or treatment. It requires the systematic decomposition of the decision problem into smaller parts. It enables the investigator to obtain values for all health states, services, or treatments without requiring the judge to assign values to every one. Decomposition of complex decisions has been shown to aid the decision-making process and its outcomes.
