Latin American Network on Law and Society

The Latin American Network on Law and Society (LANL&S; Red Latinoamericana de Derecho y Sociedad), created in 2000, is one of the most important online networks in Latin America related to issues concerning law and society. This network has an electronic presence and infrastructure with its Web site—Portal on Law and Society—which is sponsored by the International Institute on Law and Society (Instituto Internacional de Derecho y Sociedad). This network emerged to address the needs of Spanishspeaking scholars from different countries to share and exchange information. In the beginning, scholars uploaded information on an electronic bulletin board (Alertanet), but eventually the amount of information uploaded, and the need to organize it into a usable format, led to the creation of the Web site.
