Empey, Lamar Taylor (1923–)
LaMar Empey was born on April 9, 1923, in Price, Utah, a trade center made famous not only by its dinosaur quarry and Native American dwellings but also by its visits from outlaws such as the Brown's Hole Gang and Butch Cassidy and his Wild Gang. In this mining and farming district in the central part of the state, Empey's father, Claudius, was a banker and his mother, Mabel Taylor Empey, raised their family. LaMar Empey served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1943 to 1946 and remained in the reserves until 1952, reaching the rank of captain. He attended Brigham Young University (BYU), not far from his home, and married Betty Mitchell in 1949 just before graduating. He obtained his master's degree in 1951 ...
