Child Sexual Abuse
Few topics capture public attention and stimulate the outrage of Americans more than do sex crimes and sexual offenders. Sex offenses have a history that begins in ancient times and continues into the present. The history of sexual abuse dates back to ancient Greece, when it was common practice for young boys to accompany warriors to battle. This practice was no longer condoned when Christianity's popularity grew. In the 18th century, China, Japan, Africa, Turkey, Arabia, and Egypt accepted adult-child sex as normal. The 19th century showed an acceptance of the sale of young girls for sex (Ames and Houston, 1990).
