Face is the image a person puts forth and is given by others in social interaction. Facework consists of actions taken by participants to make what one does consistent with face. All people have face concerns, which are the particular ways a person wishes to be seen. For example, a doctor may wish to be seen as knowledgeable, competent, and caring by her patient.
