Any discussion of green health should include a discussion of the illnesses related to toxic exposure, called environmental illnesses, or EI. The field of environmental medicine focuses, in part, on the treatment of individuals made ill by their environment. Sick building syndrome (SBS) is a term coined in the 1970s to describe otherwise unexplained illness in individuals working or living in the same nonindustrial building. This vague term refers to a building inclusive of its population rather than to a clinical state in an individual.
