As information technology has become more important to all aspects of life, ways to make computers and printers more environmentally friendly have become popular. To this end, efficient and effective components, such as monitors, printers, central processing units (CPUs), and the like, have become more advanced, thereby minimizing their impact on the environment. Both governmental regulation and private initiatives have played a role in the push to more efficient computer and printing technologies.
