Attfield, Robin

Robin Attfield (date of birth unknown) was a professor of philosophy at Cardiff University, Wales, from 1968 until 2010; he has also taught at universities in Nigeria and Kenya. He has published extensively in environmental philosophy as well as in the philosophy of religion. His book The Ethics of Environmental Concern, published in 1983, was one of the first to apply a theory of environmental ethics in a systematic way to a range of environmental issues, and he is regarded as a leading theoretician in environmental philosophy and ethics. His basic position is that all living things are entitled to respect because they have intrinsic value, and he finds support for this view in the Judeo-Christian tradition of ecological stewardship.
