The term Earth Summit refers to the 1992 Rio de Janeiro Summit; however, when used in plural, it describes the series of summits: Stockholm 1972, Rio de Janeiro 1992, and Johannesburg 2002, which focused on human environment and sustainability.

Rio de Janeiro, 1992: United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED)

This two-week event is also known as the Rio Summit, Rio Conference, Earth Summit, and, in Portuguese, Eco ’92. The summit was convened by the United Nations and was attended by representatives of 172 countries, including 108 heads of state.
