Mathews, Freya

Freya Mathews (1949–) is a well-known Australian ecological philosopher and ecofeminist. She has taught in Australian universities since 1979 and until 2008 was associate professor in the Philosophy Program at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia, where she coordinated the Environmental Enquiry major and coedited the journal PAN (Philosophy Activism Nature). She is currently a research fellow at La Trobe. Her writings focus on ecological philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, and politics as well as a variety of themes, which she identifies as cosmology, place, identity, and indigeneity versus modernity; many of these writings are available on her Website.
