A certification process is a procedure whereby an accredited third party conducts an official on-site assessment of an organization's policy and procedures. If there is sound evidence that the organization's policy and procedures satisfy the standards set by the accrediting body and that they are being adhered to, then the organization is awarded a certificate demonstrating that it is following best practices. The Registration Process is reserved for the act of recording the organization's information in the register of the accrediting body. Founded in 1946, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is the world's largest developer of voluntary/nonlegal international standards. Its headquarters are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and in 2009 it had members from 161 countries and had produced in excess of 17,500 ISO standards. ...
