Green Fleets (Vehicles)

Making individual car users opt for cleaner vehicles has always met with a degree of resistance. For this reason, regulators—those interested in reducing vehicle pollution—have often favored targeting larger fleet operators to adopt greener vehicle technologies. Unlike individual consumers, fleet vehicle operators can make decisions that affect a large number of vehicles. Fleets also tend to refuel at central locations, making it possible to use alternative fuels that are not available in commercial refueling stations. Fleets are often used for specific purposes, and those used for short trips can rely on vehicles with limited ranges, such as electric vehicles. Furthermore, many fleets are owned or regulated by public agencies with responsibilities to reduce pollution, making it easier for them make commitments to greener vehicles.
