Vapi, India
Located in the Valasad District in India, in the state of Gujarat and close to the border with the state of Maharashtra, the town of Vapi is dominated by the chemical industry. It is also the largest industrial area in all of Asia in terms of the number of small-scale industries operating in a single place. The reason for locating this industry in a small area was that it would be easier to control pollution and effluent. However, this has not been the case, and because of the pollution from the factories and processing plants located there, Vapi became recognized as one of the 10 most polluted cities in the world.
