THE UNIVERSITY OF Leeds is a major teaching and research university in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Leeds is a leading research institution and one of the largest in the United Kingdom with over 32,000 full-time students. Established in 1904, it is one of the six original civic universities, and in 2006 it was ranked second for the number of applications received. Leeds is now among the top 10 universities for research in the United Kingdom and is internationally acknowledged as a center of excellence in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines.
