Samoa (American and Independent State of)

The islands of Samoa in the central Pacific Ocean are divided between an independent state of Samoa and the American territory of Samoa. Their religious cultures, however, are similar. God is prominent in the Samoan way, a culture known as Fa'a Samoa. The Samoan way has three key elements, including the village chief, the extended family, and Christianity. Christianity was adopted in the 20th century into this ancient code of Samoan conduct. Samoans are typically Christian and believe that Sunday is for worship and family. The public seal for Samoa states that “God be the Foundation of Samoa” (Fa'avae i le Atua Samoa).
