Teacher nomination has been found to be a valuable method to use to identify students for gifted and talented programs. The use of teacher nomination, described in this entry, has been compared with other independent variables such as peer and parent ratings and evaluations of work samples and is considered a standard practice in the identification of academically gifted and talented students.
