Joseph Renzulli and Sally Reis developed the schoolwide enrichment model (SEM) to encourage and develop creative productivity in young people. The SEM is based on Renzulli's enrichment triad model and it has been implemented in more than 3,000 schools across the United States and has continued to expand internationally. The effectiveness of the model has been studied during more than 30 years of research and field-testing about (a) the effectiveness of the model as perceived by key groups, such as principals; (b) student creative productivity; (c) personal and social development; (d) the use of SEM with culturally diverse or special-needs populations; (e) student self-efficacy; (f) the SEM as a curricular framework; (g) learning styles and curriculum compacting; and (h) longitudinal research on the SEM.
