Database design is a high-level, conceptual process of analysis that proceeds through three general phases: requirements analysis, logical design, and physical design. Database design is an essential stage in the implementation of enterprise geographic information systems. It results in a database design diagram, which is also referred to as the data model or schema. The schema is similar to an architectural blueprint. It shows all the data, their relationships to one another, and how they will be stored in a physical database within a computer system.
