There was a time when one doctor worked with one nurse and together they did their best to provide all the health care and advice that a family would be likely to need. The complexities of medicine today have led to an ever-expanding panoply of rewarding specialized careers whose members provide focused, expert care throughout the life span. For this reason, most medical center facilities today implement the rule, “wear your ID badge at all times,” acknowledging that it is a basic right of patients to know whom they are dealing with, particularly at moments when they find themselves most vulnerable and in need.
