Health Care Reforms, Current and Projected Future Reforms and their Benefits for Families

Health care reform encompasses federal and state government efforts to expand the scope of health insurance coverage, slow the growth of health care costs, and improve the quality of health care. Reform aims to enhance both the health security and economic well-being of families and also the health of individual family members and the population as a whole. In the United States, major health reform legislation was enacted in March 2010.

History

The enactment of health reform under President Barack Obama follows decades of unsuccessful efforts to achieve near-universal health insurance coverage.
