RTI is an independent, nonprofit corporation with a long history in scientific research and technology development. RTI activities both mirror and support national policies and programs, as well as diverse commercial, industrial, and academic endeavors. All activities are guided by RTI's mission: to improve the human condition through objective, innovative, multidisciplinary research, development, and technical services, setting the standard for scientific and professional excellence.

RTI headquarters are located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and it also has 10 satellite offices throughout the United States and overseas. RTI scientists design, develop, and apply advanced tools and methods in five major fields of research: health, environment and natural resources, education and training, advanced technology, and economic and social development.
