Newman is Associate Professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology and Director of the Evaluation Consortium. In addition to teaching and conducting research in higher education settings, she has served as a full-time evaluator for a K-12 school system and a public utility company.

Newman's research interests include utilization of evaluation, the ethics of practice, methods of documenting technology programs, and evidence of systemic change. She has actively practiced program evaluation in multiple settings, including K-12 education, higher education, mental health, social service, and the addictions field.
