National Science Foundation (NSF)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has been instrumental in supporting the development of evaluation theory and practice in the United States. NSF's Division of Research, Evaluation and Communication was formed in 1992 in response to a Congressional request for external, third-party evaluations of education programs. NSF has provided resources for evaluating science, math, and technology programs; has collaborated with universities to prepare the next generation of evaluators; has made a commitment to support the recruitment and mentoring of evaluators of color; and has supported evaluation capacity building and research on evaluation.
