Legislative Monitoring

Legislative monitoring is the process of reviewing and reporting on pending legislation, including committee discussions, drafts, lobbying, and other activities that have an impact on the legislation. This monitoring is done by a host of groups, including government watch groups; professional associations; unions; and local, state, and federal government agencies. Monitoring focuses typically on a particular issue, such as health care, environmental pollution, educational reform, or workplace safety, that is relevant to a profession, industry sector, or geographic region. As such, legislative monitoring is often done to inform lobbying and to create strategies to influence legislation.
