Company

The company is a unit of military organization that consists of between three and five platoons. A captain usually commands a company, with a first sergeant as the senior enlisted advisor. The exact size and composition of a company varies by the type of organization to which it belongs. For example, a typical light infantry company consists of a headquarters, three maneuver platoons, and a heavy weapons platoon, while a logistics company may consist of up to seven specialty platoons to handle vehicle maintenance, cooking, fuel, and small arms repair. The composition of a company is determined by a table of organization and equipment issued by the Pentagon. This entry describes the organization and employment of the company.
