Armored Vehicles

In broad terms, armored vehicles provide protection for their occupants and vital systems while transporting them on the battlefield. While many aircraft and watercraft incorporate armor, in the modern military lexicon, armored vehicles generally refers to ground combat and support vehicles. Armor is not an end in itself but provides protection to increase a vehicle’s survivability for it to fulfill a purpose. Armies since World War I have employed armored vehicles in a variety of roles including, but not limited to, transporting infantry, security operations, command and control, air defense, chemical warfare, artillery support, reconnaissance, medical evacuation, and recovery operations.
