U.S. Naval Institute

Based at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, since its 1873 founding, the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) is a nonprofit, professional military association whose mission, according to its website, is “to provide an independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and write in order to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to national defense.” It supports the professional development of naval officers through its journal Proceedings, book publishing, and sponsoring lectures, seminars, and conferences.
