Stars and Stripes (Newspaper)

Stars and Stripes is a daily military newspaper that dates back to Union soldiers during the Civil War. Continually published since World War II, the paper offers four daily print editions covering the Mideast, Europe, Japan, and Korea; it exists online at Stripes.com. Stars and Stripes provides information on matters affecting members of the U.S. military community, including military families, and has a daily readership of about 420,000. Authorized by the Department of Defense Directive 5122.11, Stars and Stripes is the only military news outlet guaranteed First Amendment rights as an organization that exists “without news management or censorship, Stars and Stripes is the only military news outlet guaranteed First Amendment rights, though its website notes that those rights are “subject to Congressional oversight.” ...
