Jungle terrain covers almost 10% of the earth’s surface, including large areas of Central and South America, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. This kind of environment has traditionally been considered a mysterious and hostile environment for human life. Some groups have learned to live and fight in this terrain, including the Ticuna and Yanomani tribes. A classical field manual titled Jungle Warfare, published in 1942, points out that the jungle fighter has two enemies: man and nature, with the last being particularly important due to the prevalence of wild animals, insects, and diseases including malaria, yellow fever, and dysentery in these areas.
