Digital games are referred to by many names, such as video games, online games, massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), advergames, and mobile games. Regardless of how individuals refer to these types of games, they can be played across a variety of platforms. Video games can be played on cell phones (mobile games), console systems, and on laptop or desktop computers. Digital games played on these platforms can be of different genres and may contain violent content. Just as people once had to go to movie theaters to see films, in the early days of video games people could play them only in arcades and bars.
